What happens when the CEO of a large corporation supports traditional marriage? And what happens when he gives money to a political campaign to support traditional marriage?
FYI, we’re using the term “traditional marriage” to mean the marriage between one man and one woman.
Mozilla, a software company based in California, recently came under fire when some people discovered that their new CEO Brendan Eich had given money to a political campaign supporting traditional marriage. So Mozilla gave him a sizeable push, and Eich resigned after being their CEO for only two weeks.
Language Alert: People on the other side of this issue do not use the term “supporting traditional marriage.” They use “opposing gay marriage.”
This is not an unusual event. People in today’s cancel culture are ostracized because of their beliefs in traditional marriage, their views against gender reassignment, or the idea that people are the biological gender they were born with.
Now it’s your turn: Words were said between people in the company and Brendan Eich. Although we weren’t there to hear it, we can imagine it.
Write the dialog between an angry employee and Eich or between employees on opposing sides of the issue. Or write an imaginary dialog between a board member of Mozilla and Eich.
Put your characters in an interesting setting. Let readers see them moving around and acting as they speak. Include plenty of conflict between the two characters.
Yes, “dialog” can also be spelled “dialogue.”
