Have you lived through an illness? Been in an accident? Are you stuck in the middle in your family? Do you have a tendency to lie? Are you afraid of what others think about you?
Can you imagine putting your trouble, weakness, or sin on a piece of paper for all to see?
Cardboard story
That’s just what teens in one group did. They wrote the negative or troubling thing about themselves on one side of a large piece of cardboard and showed it to viewers. Then they flipped the cardboard around to show how God helped them or to reveal a truth about themselves that God showed them. You can view their “cardboard testimonies” here.
Some people call this a testimony. Others call it the personal story of your spiritual journey. Either way, sharing this information can have a strong impact on those around you as they learn what God’s divine power or truth looks like in your life.
Now it’s your turn: On one side of a piece of paper, write down something troubling about yourself. It can be something difficult you lived through (like an illness, accident, hurricane, or divorce), a character weakness, or a sin.
Then on the other side of the paper, write one sentence showing how God got you through the difficulty, how you overcame your weakness or sin, or what truth God showed you that helps you deal with these issues.
Next, write a paragraph telling the story of how your life got from the front side of your paper to the reverse side. This is your testimony or spiritual journey.
