MIDDLE SCHOOL PROMPTS

Rules, rules, rules! You find them everywhere.

I even found some in a guide book to a Florida vacation area.

But these weren’t strictly rules. They were more like advice. In Emerald Coast Guide, I found all sorts of advice and things to avoid.

Quirky Beach Rules

For instance, in their “NEVER do the following” column, they mention some obvious things and some funny things:

Never swim alone.
Never watch a lightning storm while sitting on the beach.
Never play with jellyfish.
Never talk back to your parents.

Middle School Writing Prompt -- Rules. You find them everywhere, even on vacation. Make a silly or serious list of "Never do the following" advice for specific situations or locations.

In the guide’s “A Perfect Day at the Beach” column, they list some items you don’t need when enjoying the beaches:

shoes and socks
textbooks
iPods

On the page labeled “Things to avoid while you are at the beach and on vacation,” you’ll find these items:

getting your car stuck in the sand
sunburn
sharks
uncomfortable confrontations with people who are less than polite

I think I’d like to avoid all those while at the beach, too!

Now it’s your turn: Choose a location or situation from the following list and then make up a short list of at least five things never to do there or five things to avoid while there. Your list can be serious, humorous, or a mix of the two.

Here are your locations or situations (or you can make up another one):

-Church
-Hiking
-Biking
-Cooking
-Doing homework
-At a birthday party
-In the mall
-In a movie theater
-On a boat
-Camping
-At the library
-In a snowstorm
-In a cave
-On a plane
-In the summer
-In the winter
-In an elevator
-On a submarine
