National Make Your Bed Day is September 11. Why it is on the same day as National Patriot Day, I’ll never know, and if you’d rather do that prompt, here it is.
Being able to explain how to do something is an important skill. Have you ever explained to an adult how to do something on their computer or smart phone? Or taught a younger kid how to tie shoes or ride a bike?
Most likely, you broke the process down into bite-size pieces so the listener could understand what to do first, then next, then next, and then last.
In addition, you probably used transition words and phrases to move your listener from one step to the next. Here are a few transitions: first, next, then, after you . . . , before you . . . , during . . . , and finally. Click here for a more complete list of transitions. You’ll want the list of words under “Time and Sequence.”
Now it’s your turn: It’s time to explain to someone how to make a bed. First, decide if you want this effort to be serious or humorous. Then, make a list of steps. Last, next to each step, write down a transition word or phrase to move your reader easily from one step to the next. (See how I did that? First, Then, Last.)
