Cities like Dubuque, Iowa, are banning sledding in their city parks.
Why? Is sledding dangerous?
Recently in the United States, more than 20,000 children were hurt while sledding, according to a report on NPR. But they also report that about 82,000 kids are hurt each year on trampolines, and over 275,000 children have accidents on bicycles.
Here’s the problem: It seems that when some people get hurt sledding in city parks, they sue the city. Some insurance companies are urging cities to halt all sled activities.
Some cities have decided to allow sledding, but they have put up signs saying, “Sled at your own risk.”
Now it’s your turn: What do you think? Should sledding be banned in public parks? Write your opinion in a sentence and then make a list of about three reasons why you think this way.
